October 14, 2011: The Red Carpet … A Piece of History

6 x 9 inch piece of the Red Carpet from the King and Queen's Visit to the 1939 World's FairDave M. of Plainview, NY sent photos of a commemorative 6 X 9 inch piece of the actual carpet manufactured by Alexander Smith of Yonkers, NY on which the King and Queen of Great Britain walked on at their historic New York City Reception, June 10th, 1939.

The label on the reverse side indicates: Buckingham Royal Red Color No. B 951.

Read about King George and Queen Elizabeth’s visit to the Fair on the website, written by Fair Historian, Mr. David Cope.

What a cleaver idea, let visitors take home a piece of history and recover some of the cost of the celebration.

If you have items or stories from the 1939 NY World’s Fair and would like to tell others, contact me and I’ll blog about it and add it to the web site.
